What occupational therapy works on

Occupational therapy focuses on the task you are trying to do and everything standing between you and doing it again. In neurological rehab, that often means:

  • Using your arm and hand for reaching, gripping, buttons and writing
  • Getting dressed, bathing, cooking and other daily routines
  • Balance and safety while moving around your home
  • Managing fatigue and planning your day
  • Setting up your home so everyday tasks are easier and safer

Every visit is one-on-one with Caila, the same therapist each time. You never share a session or get handed off to an aide.

What is neurological rehabilitation?

Neurological rehabilitation is therapy for people living with the effects of a condition that affects the brain, spinal cord or nerves, such as a stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis or neuropathy. At NeuroMotion it is occupational therapy, so it focuses on the daily activities you want to do again.

What does an occupational therapist do after a stroke?

An occupational therapist helps you work on the everyday tasks a stroke has made harder, such as using your arm and hand, getting dressed, cooking and moving safely at home. Outpatient therapy is a common next step after a hospital or inpatient rehab stay.

I already finished inpatient rehab. Can I still start therapy?

Many people keep working on their goals in outpatient therapy after inpatient rehab ends. At your evaluation, Caila looks at where you are now and what you want to work on, and builds your plan from there.

Will I see the same therapist every time?

Yes. Every appointment is one-on-one with Caila. You never share a session or get handed off to an aide.

Do you offer physical therapy or speech therapy?

Not yet. NeuroMotion offers occupational therapy today. Physical therapy and speech therapy are coming soon.
